Book Exchange
Please note at this time this is just a proposed way of working we are investigating and will not trial it until Summer 2026 most likely to set up the admin properly as we are currently flat out finishing the transformation to be open in the run up to Christmas.
Proof of eligibility is required but not for renewal. It is an honour system so if you get a job earning more we ask you not to renew but buy or trade books like non members do thereon unless your circumstances change because we need the pennies to keep the lights on.
You start off by paying your 4 month membership and donating 10 books that we are happy to accept based on our standard criteria.
You take 4 away with you.
There is no date to return them by and you can keep them forever.
You cannot sell them and selling even one book will result in a ban from not only membership but from Read & Rabbit as others profitting from the books is strictly against our ethos.
You can bring any 4 books back that meet our criteria (don’t have to be the books you got from us) and go home with 4 books again from us. We are very happy to keep introducing variety.
You can return as often as you like to exchange 1 to 4 books at a time. We will be open at the weekends for at least 1 day if not 2, and midweek hours will be on facebook n the website as will be dictated by guest booksellers that may be running the shop that week as part of the bookbnb experience. They also might be running a special event or have their own exciting handmade goods etc for sale so do follow what’s occurring or you might just fancy popping in for a chat with the fresh blood. We are about meeting people after all :-). Loftus Library has regular events too, especially in the summer for kids.
Memberships eligibilty for book exchange:
*For full time students, those on minimum/living wage, unemployed, part time and anyone on less than £22k pa with housing bills to pay etc.
Admin charge for 4 months is £10 reading.
Please note the membership is a trial and the scheme may change based on experiences, feedback, popularity and running costs etc. It was akin to devised on the back of a fag packet by someone new to bookshops - but Marta did work at a video rental store as a student!
