What we sell
As well as gently used books you will find amusing bookish items, funny cards, lovely gifts and beautiful art made locally. We often hear people laughing at our tshirt slogans in the shop window. A visit to Read & Rabbit is an experience in itself - you will discover more than books! You don't need to buy anything to leave perhaps feeling somewhat uplifted.

The books
We have a wide range of gently used preloved books in our second hand bookshop on the North Yorkshire coast in the North York Moors National Park. Generally they have been donated by book lovers to ensure their books go to a good home.

We stock books in popular genres. Thrillers galore, bestsellers, chicklit and non-fiction too with many biographies. Come see for yourself.

For avid readers on low income we will be offering a membership discount scheme starting in 2026.

Does the used bookshop buy books too or give a credit?
Do we buy books? The short answer is no but:

2) if eligible* you can join our book exchange membership scheme (coming in 2026) which only applies to price bracket 1 books. It seeks to make books affordable for avid readers and we encourage you to make use of the award winning Loftus library too in beautiful new space.
